The dark brown head is deeply linked to the history of Sicily .
The dark brown head is a recurring element in Sicilian culture and has its roots directly in the history of the island .
It is said that about a thousand years ago, during the domination of the Moors in Sicily, there lived a beautiful girl who loved to spend her days dedicating herself to the care of her plants. One day, from the top of her luxuriant balcony, she was noticed by a Moor who was passing by.
As soon as he saw her, he immediately fell in love with her and didn't hesitate for a moment to declare his love for him.
The girl, struck by this declaration, passionately returned the sentiment of the Moor, but their story that began with such ardor was destined for a short life. Soon the young woman discovered that her beloved had to return to the East where his wife and children were waiting for him.
In the middle of the night, feeling betrayed and humiliated, the girl abandoned herself to a moment of jealousy and fatal anger, killing her Moro. Subsequently he cut off the head and created a sort of vase in which he planted a basil sprout inside which he took care of day by day.
In this way, the Moor, unable to leave anymore, would have remained with her forever. Meanwhile, the basil grew luxuriantly and aroused the envy of all the inhabitants of the neighborhood who, not to be outdone, had terracotta vases specially built in the shape of a Moor's Head.
From that moment the dark brown represents one of the most famous of Sicily and lives again in our jewels , in the new Caltagirone collection .
